The Nature Conservation Council of NSW says debate over coal seam gas operations on farmland is obscuring mining’s damage to the state’s forest and wilderness areas.
In a report released today the NCC said seven wilderness areas were close to feeling the negative impact of mining, including Leard State Forrest north of Tamworth and the Gardens of Stone in the Blue Mountains.
It said the bird sanctuary in the Hunter Valley’s Warkworth Sands Woodland was also at risk.
