An estimated 1,000 people spent more than two hours attending a Southern Highlands' rally against coal and coal seam gas (CSG) mining on Saturday.
The rally was addressed by a diaspora of representatives, including commercial broadcaster Alan Jones, Liberal Senator Bill Hefferan and NSW Greens' MP Jeremy Buckingham.
One of the organisers, Peter Martin from the Southern Highlands Coal Action Group, says the rally supported a local and global message.
"Obviously in the highlands we are fighting POSCOE, the giant Korean steel-making company who own essentially 80 per cent of a coal lease over Sutton Forest here and also there is a very big gas lease right across the highlands held by Leichhardt Resources," he said.
