CSG Protection Can't Slow us Down: Bligh

ANNA Bligh says she will only commit Queensland to additional federal environmental protections about coal seam gas and coal-mining developments if they do not slow down approvals processes.
The Queensland Premier today welcomed the formation of a new scientific panel to advise on the environmental impact of major resources, following a deal struck between the Gillard government and key regional Independents Rob Oakeshott and Tony Windsor for their support for the minerals resource rent tax.

But Ms Bligh, who has overseen the growth of coal seam gas industry to a $40 billion industry while Premier, said she could only support changes to approvals if they could be done efficiently.

"I think it's important to ensure that whatever new arrangements are put in place federally are not simply a duplication," she said.
