THE vocal message to mining companies from Southern Highlands landowners at last Saturday's rally was blatantly clear: stay away from Australian agricultural land.
The "Our Land, Our Water, Our Future Rally", organised by the Southern Highlands Coal Action Group and held in Bowral's Corbett Gardens, attracted a crowd of more than 1200 concerned locals, farmers and landowners.
Speakers at the three hour rally included 2GB radio broadcaster Alan Jones, Senator Bill Heffernan, Lock the Gate founder Drew Hutton, Caroona Coal Action Group spokesman Tim Duddy, Southern Higlands Coal Action Group convener Peter Martin and Member for Goulburn Pru Goward.
Master of ceremonies, Alan Jones, told the crowd it was important to keep the anti-coal seam gas mining message simple and clear.
"We say to those in the mining companies who argue that you and I and the farmers don't own what is under the ground, we say we agree with that ... but the news for (them) is nor do you - that stuff is owned by the people of Australia."
