Basin Project to Ignite Housing Demand

A central-west Queensland property agent says up to 700 new houses could be required in Alpha, east of Longreach, in the coming years.

The Galilee Basin has been described as the last remaining coal province yet to be developed in Queensland, with massive thermal coal mines being proposed together with coal seam gas exploration.

Property agent Ed Wood will speak at the Galilee Basin Coal and Energy Conference in Brisbane today.

He says even if 90 per cent of the workforce was fly-in, fly-out, there would still be a need for hundreds of new homes in the community that currently only has 140 houses.
