Alliance Upset by Federal Nationals Mining Stance

CHAIRMAN of the Manning Alliance, Peter Epov, has expressed serious concern and disappointment with the blueprint for coal seam gas development announced by federal leader of the Nationals, Warren Truss.

It's as if the Nationals are living in "an old and outdated bubble", Mr Epov claimed yesterday.

"I have read Sunday's statement by Mr Truss and it's very disappointing," he said. "The Nationals just don't seem to get it!

"The tone, the tenure and the content of the blueprint fails to properly acknowledge nor recognise what has been transpiring throughout this State over the past seven months."

Mr Epov headed the alliance initiative which resulted in a massive 'Blue Day' turnout in Taree last Monday to oppose coal seam gas mining in the Manning Valley. More than 500 people turned up at Club Taree to either sit in on the hearing of the Upper House parliamentary inquiry into coal seam gas mining, or to take part in a colourful and orderly protest in the club grounds.
