There are growing calls for the approval of two mining operations near Boggabri to be considered together so the local agriculture community is not adversely affected.
A public hearing has been held into Boggabri Coal's bid to extend the life of its current open cut mine for 21 years.
It is the final step in the planning process before a recommendation is given to the State Government.
Another company, Aston Resources, wants to build a billion dollar open cut mine nearby.
Five locals and organisations have given evidence at the meeting into the Boggabri project.
The Maules Creek Community Council's calls for Boggabri Coal to build an underground mine rather than extend the life of its open cut has been dismissed by the company.
It says there are a range of reasons why long wall mining would be unsuitable, including the location of the resource and safety.
The company is also confident it has addressed all the concerns raised by farmers, residents and the Narrabri Shire Council.
