In this extended News interview with Catherine Clifford the Nationals' member for Barwon and Minister for Western New South Wales briefly outlines changes for the coal seam gas industry.
He is the keynote speaker at a forum hosted by the Murray Darling Association in Narrabri. The forum is bringing together government, gas explorers and farmers to examine the impasse between mining and agriculture. Mr Humphries says the O'Farrell government will this week announce in detail its plans to ask gas explorers who've progressed to pilot well stage to temporarily suspend their operations while better regulations can be drafted. He says there will also be a tightening of what coal seam gas companies can do under an exploration licence and before they proceed to gas extraction.
He says gas companies have been told there will be some areas where they cannot carry out operations.
