PERTH (miningweekly.com) − Western Australian Environment Minister Bill Marmion would “not be rushed” into making a decision on the future of the controversial Vasse coal project near the tourist town of Margaret River.
Marmion confirmed on Friday that he had received the independent Appeal Committee’s report on appeals against the Environmental Protection Authority’s (EPA’s) recommendation that the coal mine would be environmentally unacceptable.
The watchdog concluded earlier this year that the proposed mine posed “serious risks” to environmental values in the Margaret River region, especially on surface and groundwater and on the social surroundings.
