A MELBOURNE company has applied for gold, silver and mineral sands mining exploration licences for two areas in Corangamite.
Mecrus Resources Pty Ltd made applications for two areas totalling 960km-squared around Cobden and Garvoc, east of Warrnambool, along with eight other applications across the state.
The company already has five exploration licences.
On Mecrus' website it states its South West Victoria operations are for gold, silver, platinum, mineral sands and "other minerals".
Friends of the Earth campaign co-ordinator Cam Walker said there had been an "absolute bonanza" on exploration applications this year.
He commended Mecrus for opting out of coal seam gas exploration, but said people needed to speak up about their other concerns.
