Martin Ferguson Slaps Down Green Gas Concerns

ENERGY Minister Martin Ferguson has attacked calls from green group Beyond Zero Emissions for the government to conduct an "independent study" into the coal-seam gas industry as misguided.
The renewable energy advocacy group yesterday called on the Gillard government to commission its own "truly" independent research, after Beyond Zero Emissions executive director Matthew Wright claimed global energy researcher WorleyParsons had suppressed a report it had commissioned on the life-cycle emissions of coal-seam gas.

The claim has been rejected as "baseless" by a spokesman for WorleyParsons.

Earlier this month WorleyParsons released a report it was commissioned to write by the industry lobby group Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association which found the carbon footprint of generating power from gas is up to 87 per cent smaller than coal.
