Gas Policy Needs More Work: LNP MP

A rural Liberal National Party MP has signalled he wants changes to the opposition's coal seam gas policy, saying there are still “a lot of things we need to get right”.

But Member for Condamine Ray Hopper insisted he was consulted on the policy, included in the LNP resources strategy unveiled on Friday, and expressed support while hinting more work was needed.

Debate over the contentious coal seam gas industry's expansion comes as Katter's Australian Party seeks to clinch support from rural voters by backing a 12-month freeze on new projects.

Galaxy Poll results published yesterday suggested 29 per cent of voters may support Katter's Australian Party at the next election, up from 23 per cent in the August poll.
