The Federal Resources Minister has indicated the government is preparing a national policy for managing water for the coal seam gas industry.
His comments come as NSW independent Tony Windsor says he'll oppose the new mining tax (MRRT) unless there's greater regulation of CSG water use.
The nine bills that make up the mining tax were introduced into Federal Parliament this morning, and will need the support of three independents to be passed.
Resources Minister Martin Ferguson says Mr Windsor's demands that the Federal Government take a leading role in the environmental management of coal seam gas industry are already being met.
