Greens Senator for NSW Lee Rhiannon says federal resources minister Martin Ferguson’s allegiance rests with the mining industry and not the Australian people.
In a statement yesterday Rhiannon said Ferguson had downplayed the potential risks of coal seam gas on the Gunnedah region in north eastern NSW.
She said it was disappointing Ferguson had labelled opposition to CSG in the Gunnedah region unacceptable.
“He should be listening to farmers’ concerns and visiting the site of the action would enable him to do this,” she said.
“Rather than backing the interests of mining companies the Government should be working with the farmers on the Liverpool Plains to protect this rich agricultural land.”
