The University of Queensland has announced a new specialist centre that will research coal seam gas.
It follows calls from Federal Independent MP Tony Windsor that the Government needs to fund research into CSG.
The Uni says it's currently in negotiations with several mining companies to fund the research.
Professor Chris Moran, director of the Sustainable Minerals Institute, explains the companies will be involved in discussing the research agenda.
One farm group has welcomed the extra research into the CSG sector.
The chairman of the Basin Sustainability Alliance Ian Hayllor says it's exactly what they've been asking for.
