THE coal-seam gas industry's peak body fears that a "worst-of-both-worlds" regulatory regime could emerge when NSW cabinet discussions resume in just over a week's time.
Negotiations are believed to be deadlocked over "no-go zones" for miners, which farmers see as vital.
But the CSG industry is concerned that will create red tape without necessarily protecting the environment.
In December, stakeholders broadly agreed to a "gateway process" implying different levels of restriction for different land uses, but some Nationals members and MPs in rural and regional marginal seats fear a backlash if no-go zones are not included.
The Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association's chief operating officer for eastern Australia, Rick Wilkinson, said the combination would benefit no one.
