A GREENS elder has urged the party to negotiate with Bob Katter's Australian Party for preferences in the coming Queensland election, as coal-seam gas emerges as a key battleground issue.
One of the Greens' founding fathers, Drew Hutton, said the party would be "crazy" not to urge their voters to preference Mr Katter's start-up party, given their mutual policies calling for a 12-month moratorium and tougher controls on any CSG development.
Now the president of anti-coal-seam gas group Lock the Gate Alliance, Mr Hutton told The Australian both parties' policies on CSG were the closest to their desired outcome.
"I think those parties would be crazy if they didn't preference each other," he said. "It would obviously make sense. If either of them are to have a chance they should recommend their voters give preferences to the other."
