This year, spare us the fake sincerity



THIS new year should be better than 2011, at least on the law of averages.   
You rarely get the sort of weather we had here in Queensland last summer two years running and, whatever you might think about coal-seam gas and coal mining, the energy-sector investment boom that has just begun is about to propel the state's economy to the top of Australia's growth league table.

And while we will have to wait a while to decide whether this is actually a good or bad thing, Queensland's government will almost certainly change within the next couple of months, meaning we might get some new thinking from the top on how to address the more intractable of the challenges facing the state, such as how to run a health system.
