Santos inherits Eastern Star Gas deal

Santos says it's disingenuous for the Greens to complain it's paying just two and a half thousand dollars a year for each coal seam gas well in the Pilliga State Forest.

The oil and gas company says it's reviewing coal seam gas mining plans for the forest in New South Wales, including a proposal to drill more than one-thousand wells. The former Labor state government signed an agreement with Eastern Star Gas in February 2011, giving it permission to access the forest until 2040.

When Santos bought Eastern Star Gas in November it inherited the agreement. Santos say mining royalties would earn the government around $150 million.

Sky News

Editor's Note:  Sins of the former Labour NSW Government..... the deal with Eastern Star Gas to mine the Pilliga State Forrest for which Santos pays $2k per year. "Oh but the Government will get $150m in royalties...." so Santos says. And they think that makes it alright. Nevermind the desecration to the beautiful forrest and the contamination of the water etc etc etc. SQUAWK!!
