Lasting relationships in the year of the farmer

2012 is the Australian Year of the Farmer. Farmers have long played an incredibly important role in Australia. Without farmers, our daily lives would be extremely hard.

Who would grow the food we eat?

Who would grow the fibre we use to make our clothes?

And, just as importantly, who would ensure the long-term stewardship of our rural environment?

Prevailing stereotypes of the environment movement might not include environmentalists giving credit to farmers for looking after the environment. But for a long time now, WWF and many others in the environment movement have recognised the critical importance of partnering with the agricultural community to conserve Australia's remaining natural heritage.
