Is another boom really the answer?

TWELVE months on from the floods that drowned Queensland - while we mourn the dead and rejoice at the recovery - there is still no indication that politicians have learned anything from the disaster.

The Floods Commission of Inquiry and the recommendations that flow from it will tell us whether the future will be just a repeat of the past with greater consequences.
It's also almost eight months on from the release of coastal hazard mapping which clearly indicates that large swales of our densely populated seaboard will be untenable into the future.
With elections locally and at state level in Queensland now due in a matter of weeks, there remains no policy enunciation to address the issue.
