Hypocrisy to the fore as protesters persecuted

Letters - Sydney Morning Herald:-

Your paper reports that environmental activists peacefully protesting at coal and gas mining sites are being put under increased surveillance by authorities (''AFP spies targeting green activists'', January 7-8).

Isn't this the sort of thing one should expect only in an autocratic state or a banana republic, not in a good democracy like Australia?

Just goes to show the power and influence capitalists have on the state to protect their vested interests over all else, including citizens' civil rights and liberty, even in a democracy.

Rajend Naidu Glenfield

A bit odd isn't it? Resources and Energy Minister Martin Ferguson using our taxes to spy on anti-coal groups who are supporting the government's policies of reducing emissions. The minister, on the other hand, with his unquestioning support for fossil fuels, has policies more in line with those of the opposition.
