CSG royalty 'holiday' under review in NSW

The New South Wales Government is reviewing a law that gives coal seam gas producers a five year royalty-free period.

In Queensland a 10 per cent royalty on coal seam gas is payable from day one of production.

But a law introduced in NSW in the early 1990s gives companies an exemption from royalties for the first five years of production. After that a five per cent rate is imposed, which increases by one per cent per year until the full rate of 10 per cent is reached.

Greens MP Jeremy Buckingham says the rule is costing NSW millions.
