When: Monday 7th February, 10 am.

20 people including locals from Bacchus Marsh and activists from Quit Coal have walked on to the site of a coal drilling rig near Bacchus Marsh.  Two protesters, including a pregnant local woman, have locked themselves to the drill rig, setting up a "picnic" next to the rig.
Bacchus Marsh mother Natasha Mills said "I felt a responsibility to stop drilling today because I’m determined to protect my family from a dangerous coal mine, and I don’t want my children’s future to be marked by run-away climate change."

"Other towns, like Wybong in NSW, have been destroyed by coal mining.  Their Mayor apologised to the Wybong community last week for letting a coal mine be developed and reported the council felt a "great deal of shame" that they had let the mining companies in.  The Bacchus Marsh community won’t let the same thing happen to us."

Quit Coal activist Paul Connor said "Prime agricultural land like Bacchus Marsh needs to be protected from destructive coal and coal seam gas mining. It’s just wrong to trash it for a quick buck."
