Brisbane Line divides nation as economic power heads north

THE Asian industrial revolution driving the mining boom and Queensland's economy has another 20 years to run, according to a study by Deloitte Access Economics.
But it says the title of "Growth Gorilla" will move from China to India, which is now heavily investing in Queensland's coal resources.

The report says the engine room of Australia's economy has shifted from Sydney and Melbourne to an area north and west of Brisbane, dramatically skewing the economics of the nation.

It had also created something similar to the Brisbane Line, a secret defence strategy in World War II that was believed to include conceding a vast part of Australia to an invading Japanese army so the southeast corner could be protected.

"Rarely has Australia's economic prospects been as geographically skewed as they are at present," Deloitte said.
