Demonstrators have demanded NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell strip coal seam gas (CSG) miners of their licence to drill.
Several hundred people gathered on Sunday at Camperdown, in Sydney's inner west, to oppose the controversial method of methane gas extraction, which they say may be unsafe.
The protesters included Marrickville mayor Fiona Byrne, who said there were "a lot of serious issues that we're starting to see in the US".
"You're actually having conflicts around groundwater contaminations, you're having issues with regards the chemicals that are being used," Ms Byrne told AAP.
