Call to End Coal Seam Gas Licensing

Demonstrators have called for coal seam gas extraction to be stopped in NSW.

Several hundred people gathered on Sunday at Camperdown, in Sydney's inner west, to oppose the controversial method of methane gas extraction, which they say may be unsafe.

The protesters included Marrickville mayor Fiona Byrne, who said there were 'a lot of serious issues that we're starting to see in the US'.

'You're actually having conflicts around groundwater contaminations, you're having issues with regards the chemicals that are being used,' Ms Byrne told AAP.

After gathering in Camperdown the demonstrators marched along King Street to St Peters.
