WITH the Queensland government set to legislate to protect
fertile agricultural land from mining exploration later this year, the question
remains: can farmers and mining companies really work together?
The announcement by the Queensland government that it planned
to introduce legislation declaring the best agricultural land off limits to
mining was the line in the soil farmers had been waiting for. However, many of
the State’s farmers are unsure how effective these protections will be.
