Mining companies and
developers have been given the option to offset environmental damage at the
cheapest cost to them under a new Queensland government policy.
Minister for Environment Vicky Darling said, however, it's there
to complement existing leglisation that requires developers to avoid and
minimise impact on the environment.
She said where the development is necessary and impacts cannot be
avoided, the developer has the option to offset.
