Winners highlight losers in Queensland's mining boom

I HAVE seen the brilliant things that are happening in the bush.

Creaking old pubs that a few years ago were empty are now full of men and women wearing high-vis shirts. Motels are full, bus companies are flourishing, engineering firms are expanding, real estate agents are laughing and the signs of modern urban life are creeping west.

I have seen people who had no future now with more options. Young people finishing school no longer have to leave town and head for the cities to get a job. For the next 30 years or more, they will have a future.
