Gippsanders concerned about the impact of coal-seam-gas exploration will meet in Leongatha tonight.

Drew Hutton, Queensland-founder of environmental activist group Lock the Gate, will talk to landholders and community members at the meeting.

The Lock the Gate Alliance was founded in 2010 to protest against CSG exploration and to fight for landholder rights in Queensland and New South Wales.

There is concern that CSG exploration poses environmental and health issues.

"When you muck around with the pressure then you're going to get movement of water between those aquifers, when you get that you get either draw downs in the water and or contamination because you get water from a poor quality aquifer mixing with water from the good quality aquifer," he told ABC Mornings program.

"We're not cooperating until governments actually enact protective legislation."
