With the policy taking effect after years of campaigning, political drama and debate, many will wonder 'what now?' What is the next battle in the campaign for a safe climate future?

When it comes to the national climate change discussion, the impact of Australia's coal exports has long been the elephant in the room. But this may soon change. The successful campaign for a carbon price and emissions targets has created a vacuum. And as the saying goes, 'nature abhors a vacuum'.

It's only a matter of time before climate campaigners settle on the next big challenge. Considering the massive impact of Australian coal exports, it's difficult to imagine the sector escaping the climate movement's sights.
