Rain and flood cause mine problems

Boggabri Coal has been given permission to pump 700 megalitres of water from the mine into the Namoi River.
The Idemitsu Boggabri Coal mine is another part of the region that's been impacted on by the wet weather conditions in the North West.

At the end of November it recorded 130 millimetres of rain, and two weeks ago it received another 230 millimetres.

The Executive Director of Operations, Peter Westerhuis says it was too much for the mine to cope with.
To discharge the excess water the company has received permission from the EPA to release 700 megalitres into the Namoi River.
