Mayor says Mindarie mine fears ease

A Mayor in South Australia's Murray-Mallee says the heat has come out of the debate about reopening the mineral sands mine at Mindarie.

The company behind the project, Murray Zircon, held another public meeting last night to discuss its plans.

Farmers in the area have been worried about ongoing land rehabilitation works.

Karoonda East Murray Mayor Kevin Burdett says those concerns have eased.

"It would be naive of me to suggest that there won't be some ongoing problems but I think there's no doubt now that the company and the Government and the landowners are capable of working together to minimise the risk and if there are some issues to certainly fix them up," he said.
