Lock The Gate: Your donation can keep your campaign to stop coal and coal seam gas on track

Since its launch in early March, the Lock the Gate Alliance has achieved a great deal in its campaign to halt inappropriate mining and coal seam gas extraction around Australia. We organised a National Day of Action last year involving 10,000 Lock the Gat-ers. Our campaign has locked coal seam gas companies out of thousands of properties in Queensland and New South Wales.

 We have made submissions to various inquiries and on many government policies, submitted petitions and organised rallies and launched several legal cases. We have mobilised people from rural and urban Australia many of whom have never participated in any campaign before, with farmers never believing they could work so effectively with “greenies” and vice versa. And we have captured the attention of the media and the public in a way that has brought massive interest to bear on these issues.

 Most importantly, we have had wins and we are now in a position where we can push forward with our campaign to have much bigger ones!  Our blockades at Gloucester in New South Wales and Kerry in Queensland have resulted in the coal seam gas companies moving away from the area and the realisation that both companies – AGL and Arrow Energy – are in serious trouble. As a result of the Kerry blockade the Liberal National Party was forced to state that an LNP government would not allow CSG in the Scenic Rim area. These industries now know they are in for a fight and governments know they have to act in the public interest or face voter wrath.

Now we have the Queensland state election and Lock the Gate is working furiously to make sure coal and coal seam gas are central issues for the election and ones the political parties cannot ignore.

We can make huge gains in the coming period but we urgently need your help. We need money to be able to maintain our campaign.
