A PROPOSED $300million coal seam gas pipeline through the Singleton shire is under review.
The development company, Santos, confirmed the review yesterday when responding to claims that Santos’ economic modelling was inaccurate and ignored environmental costs.
The Canberra-based research group, The Australia Institute, alleged this week that Santos’ Narrabri to Newcastle gas project was based on generous assumptions, overlooked environmental costs and would not provide the economic or employment benefits it claimed.
Santos was also under national media scrutiny this week for four toxic water leaks that contributed to the death of trees in the Pilliga State Forest, which a company official initially denied.
Santos spokesman Matthew Doman told The Argus yesterday he “totally rejected” the allegations and said the Singleton pipeline review was part of a general review associated with Santos taking over the Eastern Star Gas project late last year.
The Argus reported in August that Eastern Star planned a 286 kilometre pipe from north western New South Wales gas fields, near Narrabri, to a proposed $1.5billion gas export terminal on Newcastle’s Kooragang Island.
