Stop Dangerous Coal Seam Gas Mining in Victoria

SIGN THIS PETITION!

WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT
Coal Seam Gas mining (also known as fracking) blasts a mixture of water and chemicals 2500 meters into the ground. Over 596 chemicals make up 'fracking fluid', many of which are potentially very dangerous (including hydrochloric acid) if those chemicals contaminate water supplies.

There are already confirmed instances of carcinogenic chemicals contaminating water near fracking sites in Queensland.

Across the Australia and the world, there is lots of evidence to suggest people are getting horribly sick after their water is contaminated as a result of fracking.

This industry is not yet established in Victoria - but mining companies are pushing hard to start fracking, without any scientific guarantees of our safety.

As Victoria faces a wave of exploration licenses for coal seam gas (CSG), coal, and shale gas, there is a growing community opposition to this spreading industry.

The Coalition Government in New South Wales has already introduced a moratorium - preventing any fracking - until the scientific research can be done to assure everyone that no one will be put at risk.

It's time we stood up and asked the Victorian coalition government to do the same. Sign the petition, and call on the Victorian government to institute a moratorium on fracking until it can be scientifically proven as safe for the community and the environment.
