LRMA Backs Calls for Wilcox Report Release

LRMA: NSW Farmers has issued a media release stating that “landholders in Lightning Ridge are dealing with trespassers, illegal use of firearms and the illegal construction of pubs on their properties while the State Government delays action on the issue’’.

NSW Farmers’ president Fiona Simson is calling for the government to immediately release the Wilcox report. On ABC Radio Country Hour last Tuesday Ms Simson also said landholders had no idea who was on their property and that miners access landholders properties day and night, do not carry proper compensation documents, carry guns, construct pubs and even a brothel.

We do not believe any miners carry firearms onto properties; all landholders are notified by the titleholder when they register a mineral claim, the department can also give them a list of titleholders on their property or they can go online at any time to look at what titles they have on their property.

Compensation remains an issue with the landholders with whom miners do not have an agreement however miners pay compensation as per a mining warden’s assessment or risk losing their title.
