2GB’s Alan Jones spoke to Paul Cleary from the Australian newspaper this morning, about the activities of the coal mining and coal seam gas industries in Australia… and the story that emerged is thoroughly appalling.
Arrow Energy is paying the police to arrest farmers blockading their own land, while the coal seam gas industry has been hiring high-profile ex-politicians and civil servants to gain instant access to government decision makers. Queensland recently lost 3 of its most senior people in LNG regulation, while the Department of Environment and Resource Management has lost 68 staff to the resource industry since January 2010.
The National Water Commissioner estimates that the CSG industry in Australia will draw (at least) 300 gigalitres of water a year from the Great Artesian Basin, continuously for the next 25 years. And the industry is not paying one cent for any of that water, while farmers have to live within strict water allocations. Meanwhile, coal mining companies are leaving uncovered coal stacks close to local residents, producing pollution, sickness and disease.

Editor's Note: This is a good read people. It shows just what Arrow Energy will do to the farmers of Australia in their quest for $$$.
