Rick Wilkinson of the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association highlighted a graph showing that in the State of Texas in the US, there were 218,556 petroleum wells compared to 249 in NSW and 7000 in Queensland.
That was despite Texas being 100 square kilometres smaller in size than NSW and more than 1000 square kilometres smaller than Qld, while sharing similar gross farm product values of about $9 billion.
