SCENIC Hills Association members are disappointed after a ban on coal seam gas mining was voted down in the NSW Upper House last week.
Father Greg Burke was among more than 100 anti-coal seam gas protesters who marched in front of NSW Parliament House on Thursday calling for a moratorium on the industry until more was known about its impacts.
"I spoke at the protest about having the possibility of significant health liabilities very close to where people live and how, sadly, I think they think they kick the Macarthur area around," he said.
AGL Energy currently has 86 gas wells as part of the Camden Gas Project, with more wells planned for parts of Campbelltown, Spring Farm and Menangle Park.
NSW Greens MP Jeremy Buckingham introduced the bill, which would have imposed a 12-month moratorium on the industry.
While Labor sided with the Greens to support the bill, the Shooters and Fishers Party and the Christian Democrats joined with the Coalition MPs to defeat it.
Coalition MP Duncan Gay said the Coalition was already acting to regulate the coal seam gas industry. A parliamentary inquiry into coal seam gas is due to be handed down on May 5.
