Gas boom could affect Queensland vote

The booming coal seam gas industry is emerging as a significant issue in this month's Queensland election.

The CSG industry says investment in the sector is occurring at $30,000 per minute, but some farmers and environmentalists are worried about its impacts.

Dr Mark Bahnish, a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Queensland, says it will be a major consideration for both rural and city voters.

"So here we're talking mainly about voters around the Scenic Rim, Lockyer Valley and the Western and Southern Downs," he said.

"But I think it's also going to have a big impact in Brisbane and some of the other regional centres, where there's a large number of voters who are very concerned about, in particular, the green issues."

Editor's Note:   You better believe that it is going to affect how Queenslanders vote.  It has certainly changed the people around me ... March 24 is looming and our memories are LONG!
