What the frack? WA gets the green light in Warro

THE ongoing debate on hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, has gotten more interesting with Environment Minister Bill Marmion’s decision to allow the controversial technique to go ahead in WA.

Located 60km east of Jurien and 200km north of Perth, the Warro field covers 7000ha with gas deposits starting from 3750m below the surface.

Fracking will be undertaken at four sites to test the viability of extraction from shale and tight gas resources.

According to a Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP) report, the site has the potential to provide more than ten per cent of the State’s current gas consumption.
