Construction Forestry Mining and Energy Union dumps on anti-mining blitz

A POWERFUL union official has criticised a plan by environmental activists to sink the coal export industry with a litigation blitz on key projects, declaring it an "economy killer" that would be rejected by the Australian people.
Construction Forestry Mining and Energy Union national president Tony Maher said the campaign to seek almost $6 million in funds to sabotage coal projects and infrastructure was "just not a call that people want to listen to", as it would inhibit Australia's economic growth and involved "spurious" claims about the environment.

"I'm no lover of faceless global giant mining companies," Mr Maher told The Australian last night. "But they are driving the economy. You can't convince the Australian people otherwise. I think it's a hopeless cause . . . to the extent that it's focusing on litigation and cadging money off millionaires, I think it's an admission of failure."
