Protection for Margaret River Yet to be Determined

The Premier Colin Barnett says he will wait until an appeal over coal mining in Margaret River has been considered, before he changes any laws to protect the area.

Last year Mr Barnett said he would look into the option of legislating to prevent coal mining in the region, after residents voiced their concerns about LD Operations' bid to mine coal at Osmington.

The state's environmental watchdog recommended against the proposal, but the company has appealed against that decision.

The Premier says he is considering various options for the region but he will not make any decisions until after the appeals process.
