Tapping a Natural Source of Energy

THE growing public focus on coal seam gas is a great opportunity to talk about the benefits and impacts of an industry relatively new to NSW.

CSG is natural gas produced from coal seams. It has been produced in Queensland for over 20 years and now represents over 70 per cent of their natural gas. The industry is now developing gas export projects that will attract over $50 billion in investment and create over 18,000 jobs.

In NSW, Santos is exploring the potential for similar opportunities - providing a new source of clean energy for the state and significant economic benefits. The royalties this will generate will pay for teachers, nurses, hospitals, schools and police stations.

It's time for straight talk about coal seam gas and how it's produced. Reasonable concerns must be addressed, outlandish claims dismissed.
