Tense Farmers in Opal Minefield in NSW's Northwest

DECADES-old tensions are building between farmers and opal miners as they go head-to-head over compensation.
On one side, farmers in the state's far northwest want up to $1000 a year for opal mining claims on their land.

Miners are prepared to pay about $40 to $50 a year.

Despite the split, they are united on one issue - both groups want the state government to release the Wilcox report into problems plaguing the opal mining industry - including compensation.
