Coal dust fears laid on the line

A FORMER environmental engineer has launched an online campaign to stop the one million tonnes of uncovered coal that is transported by rail through Toowoomba each month.
A Facebook page, "STOP Brisbane COAL Trains" has been created by Allora resident John Gordon to raise awareness of what he claims is one of the biggest issues facing city residents.
Mr Gordon claims Toowoomba residents are simply not aware of the well-documented health issues arising from increased exposure to coal dust.
"More than 100 uncovered coal trains pass through Toowoomba each week from the massive mines to the west of the city," Mr Gordon said.
"Each train has the capacity to haul more than 40 wagons carting 2000 tonnes of coal.
