QLD Poll Shows 71% Support Australian Party Plan for CSG Moratorium

State Leader of Katter’s Australian Party, Aidan McLindon, said that new polling showed widespread support for the Australian Party’s plan to impose a 12 month moratorium on coal seam gas drilling.

An Essential Media poll has shown that 71 per cent of Queenslanders support a moratorium and that highest support was found amongst conservative voters. “The Australian Party will impose a 12 month moratorium on coal seam gas developments and this policy is overwhelmingly supported by Queenslanders,” said Mr McLindon.

“The ALP and LNP have both said they are committed to an expansion of the CSG industry, so there is a clear difference between our stance and that of Anna Bligh and Campbell Newman.” “Campbell Newman has a huge problem because his party’s policy not only outlines that it welcomes this expansion, but it does so despite recognising that CSG expansion will dramatically increase the industry’s impact on Queensland rural landholders.”

“This is written in the fine print on page 44 of his Resource and Energy Strategy.” “Campbell Newman needs to stop whinging that LNP voters do not understand his position, like he did when he came to Beaudesert last week. Instead he should accept that they understand his position very well and do not support it.”
