CONCERNED landholders and members of coal seam gas (CSG) action groups united during the weekend.
Some 20 groups across North-West NSW and beyond gathered in Narrabri to share knowledge, build relationships and begin work on strategies to halt the expansion of CSG mining.
Chairman of the Bellata/Gurley CSG Action Group Penny Blatchford attended the meeting.
“The meeting was excellent,” Mrs Blatchford said.
“A very diverse group of people from all different backgrounds came along to voice their concerns,” she said.
The recent evidence of toxic spills of CSG water in the Pilliga and reports of dams failing at local coal mines during the recent flood events has dramatically escalated concerns about the impacts of mining.
On Saturday afternoon a group from the meeting were escorted to the Pilliga Forest to get a glimpse of the devastation caused from CSG mining first hand.
“Unbelievable and disappointing are the only two words I can use to describe what we saw at the Pilliga,” Mrs Blatchford said.
“There has been no remediation.
